Female Sexuality and Development of the Sexual Response Cycle Models
Youn Ga-Hyun

Abstract
One of the most progressive spheres in doing research on human sexual behavior is to develop models of sexual response cycle. When based on the models, treatment strategies for sexual dysfunctions can be made with ease. After attempting laboratory experiments on sexual responses, Masters and Johnson proposed the first modern model of sexual response cycle in 1966. Their model had been applied as the most appropriate approach to deal with most of sexual problems for males as well as females, but before long Kaplan suggested an alternative model to add sexual desire as the initial stage to explain sexual response, especially, for females. While rejecting the biomedical models, more recently, a new group of feminist researchers and therapists suggested a new view model of female sexual response. An example of that is a model proposed by Basson, and its main cores are the notion of sexual non-equivalency between men and women and the importance of emotionality in female sexual response.
